Summer 2017 Salute...Food, Life and New Adventures
Well, Summer came and went all in what seemed like a blink. At least the culinary side kept things at a steady pace by encouraging enough pause to enjoy what the earth gifts during this time. Lots of seasonal favorites. This was my first Summer with Bloomsbury Farm CSA and goodness did they deliver. Lots of color. So many things to pickle or jam and a variety of sprouts as always. But don't take these words as truth, keep scrolling and allow the visuals to tell Summer's story. Enjoy:)
Full of amazing love. The Tomatoes alone were plentiful not to mention colorful. These baskets represent a beautiful artistic palette. And each week there is always something new. Bloomsbury likes to gift their CSA members with occasional little extra special gifts. The homemade Tomato Jam was a favorite.
It wouldn't be a Summer party if there wasn't ART involved. While chalk to street seems to be a pastime favorite for kids in the neighborhood, my inspiration came through the incorporation of food.
When your photography mentor agrees to come and gift you with more of his artistic genius, food is a must and it better be special. Pineapple Pizza was the request so a veggie gluten free version is what manifested. Although it was a slight departure from what he is used to eating, I was grateful he found this healthier version delicious. It might actually now be one of my new favorite go to's.
Watermelon Stars with Almond Yogurt and Toasted Oats, Lemon Lime Pops with Blueberries, healthy Detox Smoothies and Watermelon Melon Kiwi Salad were regular Yum Yum's this summer.
If you've been around here at Seed Plant Water Grow long enough you'll know I love my dehydrator and fruit leather is something that's easy and fun. This year I decided to play with flavor combinations and use the colors as another way to be artful in the kitchen. Swirling patterns out of blended fruit puree is definitely a new de-stressing calming technique.
Zucchini and Squash
The Zucchini and Squash were plentiful this season and of course once again showed up on my dehydrator trays for some healthy seasonal Salt Vinegar and Dill chips. I also love roasting them, even in the summer because they keep in refrigerator well and you can add them to anything. Spiralizing them is another go to. It's quick and I enjoy nothing more than a reason to whip up some Cashew or Macadamia Nut Alfredo. Toss in all those yummy Tomatoes and dinner is ready.
I always spend time with the beauty side of food. It's my passion and what started the whole Seed Plant Water Grow adventure. Meditation exists in many forms, this is it for me. Quite moments alone with artful arrangements open a channel to my true self and helps keep me aligned with my creative purpose.
